La Asociación Española de Nueva Iberia, Inc. (LAENI) is a nonprofit, volunteer organization incorporated in the City of New Iberia, Louisiana to serve as a vehicle for the recognition and promotion of the Spanish ancestry and culture in New Iberia and throughout Louisiana. LAENI, Inc. encourages, supports and directs programs and activities involving educational, culinary, music, and art exchanges while creating an awareness and deeper understanding of our local Spanish heritage.

Trace your ancestry and recover memories of the past. Meet and greet other Spanish Families and enjoy presentations by guest speakers from around the state. If you are of Spanish decent and would like to learn more about your family tree please come prepared with names of parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents to better help in your search!

Students Church AlleyScavenger Hunt

     Student Field Trip   

Our field trip is geared towards high school Spanish classes throughout Acadiana. Students can learn of the Spanish influence in New Iberia and throughout Louisiana. Field trip includes presentations, a scavenger hunt which starts indoors with the genealogy displays then heads outdoors to the Crochet Ceiling down Church Alley, followed by lunch at food trucks in Bouligny Plaza. Ending the field trip students will have the opportunity to experience a paella cooking demonstration and enjoy samples before returning back to school.
